Hardwood floor refinishing is a great way to add value and transform your home while giving it that “new” feeling. Typically it takes only a few days to refinish an average home’s hardwood floors. A drum sander is used to refinish a hardwood floor. Coarse, medium and fine sand papers are used. The floor is then buffed using fine mess “screens” until the wood is smooth as silk. Upon request, doorways are sealed with plastic sheets to contain dust in the work area.
For clear finishes, a penetrating sealer is applied as an initial first coat. If you choose to stain your wood floor, the stain itself acts as a sealer.
For a color-stained floor, the stain will serve as a protective sealer. Depending on humidity level, temperature and air circulation of the room a darker stain will take longer to dry than a lighter stain, .
After a wood floor is stained, three coats of “varnish” is applied. We offer a choice of oil-based or water-based polyurethane wood floor finishes in matte, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish.
